Another Look-Alike

We found this ad in one of the magazines lying around the house, and the kid on the page looks just like my sister! That’s another celebrity look-alike for our family! *grin*

Anyway, I’m finally going back to school tomorrow. I feel like a first-timer for it’s been 10 long months since I took some time off. Can’t wait to ace my classes. Hahaha.

Life in Eight Weeks

Been an insanely rough two months: trying to regain my footing after leaving behind my wonderful life in the Philippines. Kicking off with a clean slate. Making difficult decisions. And above all, getting used to the absence of the people that I love. (By the way, that send-off party was the biggest gathering of the people that I love ever!)

While there’s quite an amount of drama these past few weeks, I still have my share of blissful things going on. Small things to say the least, but which are helping me savor this American journey.

California Theme Parks. So far, I’ve visited Disneyland and California Adventure. Two places where I forgot all of life’s contradictions. The mere fact that I’m just a drive away from those places, I sure am going back soon.

La Mirada Nature Parks. Somewhere in L.A. County is La Mirada City where we’re currently settled. Not as thriving as the rest of L.A. though, but here we get to enjoy nature in its pristine beauty. These parks have been our sanctuary, and most of the time I just like to lie on the grass, appreciate the vastness of the sky, putting the whirlwind of activities behind me.

The Public Library.
I have this lust for books. So put me in a library where every week there are brand-new collections and up to FIFTY books are allowed for check-out each day and you’ll have me behaving like a puppy. La Mirada has just that!

Talents. Might seem unusual, but these past few days, I’ve been performing a lot. Not in big-scale events though, just family gatherings. Been playing the guitar and been singing with the microphone too! Indeed, our moving to the US has caused us to come out of our shells. Mari and Lolit have been singing (with Lolit invited as a guest performer at some Christmas concert), Bokyo’s dancing (!), Barok’s on his violin, and little Mai-Mai’s doing a lot of sashaying and singing as well!

Mexican Food. I never really paid attention to Mexican food until we came here. On almost every major street, I see a Taco Bell or Green Burrito store! You guess. I now eat a burrito for breakfast. A burrito for lunch. And a burrito for dinner. I’m loving it! Match that with guacamole chips dipped in sour cream and my so-called diet is totally ruined.

I think I just have that to say. More will be added to this list, given the time I’d be spending in this new country. So keep me company as I retell my good times, bad times (and things in between)--the US edition!

Cheers to everyone out there!
